The four remaining teams in the competition will battle for a place in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup Final this weekend and two Rugby League World Cup 2013 venues will host the matches.
On Saturday, Wigan Warriors face London Broncos at Leigh Sports Village, the setting for Tonga’s clash with the Cook Islands on November 5.
Wigan’s Anthony Gelling will be hoping to achieve success in both fixtures, having made clear his desire to play for the Cookies this autumn.
And his international team-mate Keith Lulia, whose side Bradford were eliminated from the Cup in round five, is also extremely excited about the start of the tournament.
“Gelling has been given his shot at Wigan and I think he’s shown what he can do,” said Lulia.
“He’s well known over here now, and I hope more Cook Islanders are given that chance”
“As for me, I just really hope I can make the initial squad. I know my form for Bradford this year will play a huge part, so I’ll just concentrate on getting my head down and producing my best form at club level.
“Either way, I’d like to think we have a pretty good chance of reaching the quarter-final stage.”
On Sunday, Warrington will take on Hull FC at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield, where co-hosts England will entertain rivals Ireland on November 2.
Hoping to play a key role for club and country in both matches is Ben Westwood, who was a part of the England team eliminated from the 2008 World Cup at the semi-final stage, and who is already a three-time Challenge Cup winner.
“All eyes have to be on the silverware. We’ve been planning for this tournament for years, and it’s now time for us to do the business”
“It’s time to step up a gear and that has been great for the Super League and Challenge Cup, which in turn will be great for England’s prospects”
“It’ll be a great finish to the year.”
Warrington are aiming to make a fourth appearance at Wembley Stadium in five years, and the famous ground will also welcome four semi-finalists at RLWC2013.
The Big Hit double header on November 23 was officially announced by London Mayor Boris Johnson, and a stunning day of high-octane entertainment for all the family is anticipated.
Don’t forget, there is still time to enter our competition to win a signed England or Australia shirt.
