Friday, June 7, 2013, at Augustus Este field, the first match of the North East pool of the Italian Serie A RL was played between home side the Este Rams and Padova Rugby League.
Rams start strongly and after 25 mins they already have a 20-0 lead with tries scored by Ferro, Veronese, and Filipivic Broggiato.
On the stroke of half-time, Padua reacts with a try to Franceschin. The first half came to a close with home side ahead 20 to 4.
Two minutes into the second half, the Rams score again through Checchetto. At this point, the Padova side reacted well, with some good yardage gained. For the next 20 minutes its all Padua with 2 tries from hooker Filon. The second Filon try was after a spectacular movement including 2 offloads from his team mates. With the score Este Rams 24 and Padova 12. The Rams wake up and score a long distance try from Zorzada.
With this last try the Rams take control of the match allowing just one try after 30 mins to Sinigallia and then closing the match with a try to Borsetto.
The coach of the Rams, Tiziano Franchini, was fairly satisfied, despite the good performance of the team, there was a big black out by his team in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
Padova Rugby League coach Battistella said that if the match had started on the 1st minute of the first half it could have been a different story..
